Football Recap: Broncos Edge Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Denver Broncos clinched a 13-11 win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to secure the ugly win.
Dominant Performance Wins Contest
Even with recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 total net yards during the entire game.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes left.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous performance, the Jets maintained the ball with a opportunity to drive for a potential victory. However Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after head coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion rather than sending out specialist Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," the coach stated after the contest.
