Pakistan brought an end to the reigning champions the Proteas' unbeaten run by completing a 93-run triumph in an thrilling and closely contested first Test in Lahore.
The Proteas, who had a 10-Test winning streak in the longest format ended with victory over the Aussies in the World Test Championship final in June, were dismissed for 183 in pursuit of 277.
Having resumed on 51 for two, they saw the dismissal of first-innings centurion De Zorzi leg before wicket to left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi to the third ball of the day to shift the finely-poised run chase in the home team's favour.
Slow left-armer Noman Ali, who secured 10-191 in the game, dismissed Tristan Stubbs for 2 and bowled Brevis, who offered some resistance with a rapid 54.
Off-spinner Sajid also capitalized on sharp turn to terminate opener Ryan Rickelton's stay - he faced 145 balls for 45 - and Afridi came back in the post-lunch session to knock over the lower order with a fine display of reverse swing.
He trapped Kyle Verreynne lbw for nineteen and bowled Subrayen and Rabada to seal the victory.
It was both sides' opening game of the 2025-2027 Test championship cycle and moves the hosts straight into second place behind table-toppers the Australian team.
The win was founded on key performances of 93 by opener Imam-ul-Haq and, importantly, all-rounder Agha which lifted them to three hundred and seventy-eight.
From there spinners Noman Ali and Sajid utilized favourable home conditions, as they had in their series victory over England last year, to sustain their lead.
The next and last match starts on 20 October.
